You can safely call Sigma Coatings (PPG Industries) a titanium on the paint market. The company has been supplying high quality paint to professional painters since the 18th century. Nevertheless, Sigma Coatings also has to face strong competition. For example, giving large discounts is not uncommon on the professional paint market. Sigma Coatings would like to distinguish itself in a special way. However, the leading company is often copied. Together with Six Fingers, Sigma Coatings therefore developed a new concept. One that is distinctive and defensible. And totally innovative for Sigma Coatings itself: instead of b2b, the company concentrates for the first time on b2c.
The first time that we saw everything on paper, it wasn’t all entirely clear. But despite that, we didn’t have a feeling of uncertainty. We were looking for an innovative concept for a marketing campaign, but we gradually discovered that we actually needed a new business model. Before we started, we really had no idea at all that we were going to do something completely innovative. But see what we came up with – Sigma paintr. And that is the result of a closely mentored process. The openness and the ‘keep it real’ attitude was important for us. Six Fingers is not pompous. And the size of the company is a real plus, as it’s great to get to know them personally.

We have paid attention, listened and observed. Not only on the Dutch market, but also in Belgium and Germany. This is how we discovered all the customs, expectations and problems in the painting market. And within other sectors we learned about new business models and partnerships. We listened to the consumer, who was often afraid of outsourcing paintwork. After all, you want a professional who delivers the best and most beautiful work. But how do you rate that? And how do you make the choice that suits you? All experiences brought us to the perfect answer: Sigma paintr., A platform on which consumers and painters are brought together and on which the consumer gets the reins.
Sigma paintr. is the new standard in the industry for painters. The dynamic platform saves time and is worrying for the consumer and the professional. On Sigma paintr. you as a customer can arrange everything online. That did not seem more than normal in this digital era. We developed Lean Startup methodologies into a platform where customers themselves prepare their quotation online and determine when it is being painted. The consumer therefore gets the control. But the painter is also taken care of: via paintr. they can accept jobs without having to come along or write tenders. It can be that simple. The platform is already a major innovation in its sector. But we are not finished yet. We test critical success factors and are in constant conversation with consumers for Sigma paintr. to continue to improve. After all, it is the customer who is central to Sigma Coatings.
